SPORTS VISION

Let Us Handle Everything

Ilana de Swardt passed her Sports Vision course cum laude at the then Rand Afrikaans University, now known as the University of Johannesburg. Each and every sport has different visual requirements. A simple measure of visual perception is not a measure of an athlete’s performance ability. Factors that are important in Sports Vision is contrast sensitivity (ability to see fine detail at a distance), dynamic visual acuity (the quality of vision whilst running in relation to a moving object) and focus flexibility (the ability to focus quickly and accurately from a near to a far object and back, with speed and accuracy). The importance of coordination of eye, hand and body, reaction time to visual stimuli and peripheral-central vision co-operation, cannot be overemphasized. Protective eyewear, especially those sports involving fast moving objects are essential to avoid injury to the visual apparatus of the eye and surrounds.
