PAEDIATRIC VISION
Paediatric visionÂ
There are visual related problems that can be treated with vision therapy, with or without spectacles. Vision therapy is a series of activities that are individually prescribed for your child’s needs. The goal of vision therapy is to develop and improve visual skills and performance. After a comprehensive eye test has been done, an appropriate individual visual therapy program will be determined by the optometrist. The more effective the visual system, the more effective school work can be processed. Schools require that an increasing amount of information needs to be processed accurately and in a very short time span. In order to do that, the visual system needs to gather and process the information accurately and quickly. If the information gathered is incorrect, unreliable and confusing to your child, his/her processing of visual information will be slow and incorrect. Signs and symptoms to look out for include:Â
Red, burning and watery eyesÂ
Tired eyesÂ
HeadachesÂ
Poor eye movementsÂ
Light sensitivityÂ
Attention problemsÂ
Poor reading comprehensionÂ
Confuses similar looking wordsÂ
Loss of place when readingÂ
Words moving on the pageÂ
Avoidance of close work e.g. reading, writing and colouring
